Aliki Yiorkas

"My method of working is intuitive, and is a collection of actions; drawings, writings, and printmaking. This work can be seen as archival and supports the idea that the archival impulse is driven by the need to fill the gaps within cultural memory. Scouring the environment to collect condolence letters, undertaker’s receipts and mourning cards connects to events of the past and present. As I move in and out of time, these objects bring home the significance of memories and their ability to keep us connected. For me, a way of giving new life and meaning to mourning stationery through printmaking processes. Beginning as a tactile object and held close to the body, they continue their trajectory affirming that they are traces of life."
