Judith Nangala Crispin

Judith Nangala Crispin is a Canberra-based visual artist who uniquely amalgamates poetry, photography and other visual art processes. In addition to having a music-based background, she has published collections of poetry such as 'The Myrrh-Bearers' and 'The Lumen Seed’. Crispin’s work explores the intimate connection with country, and the themes of displacement and identity loss. All of which is driven by her own lost Aboriginal ancestry. In 2011 Crispin began spending part of each year living and working with tribal people in the Tanami desert. Time spent here, not only performs as inspiration for her personal work but has been the catalyst for two major social research projects- The Julfa Project and Kurdiji 1.0. Both of which Crispin has directed. Crispin’s work can be found in a multitude of established galleries around the world, magazines and books.
