Robert Rauschenberg

Robert Rauschenberg is major American modernist who’s work lead way to the pop movement through his use of ‘Combines’ where he integrated painting, sculpture, photography and graphics.

‘Cage’ is an iconic New York work in honour of John Cage, modernist composer, personal friend and often collaborator w/ artist Robert Rauschenberg.

It epitomizes the New York Modernist Movement in the arts during the 1970s and 80s, and the collaborative environment between artists of various disciplines a the time, which involved fine artists, musicians and choreographers.

A significant historic feature in this work on the lower left hand corner is a sort of prophetic image of roses tumbling over the twin towers decades before their destruction.
